This browser-based tool centers a string to the given width of a line. You can specify any number of characters for the line width but if the string is longer than your value, this tool does nothing and just returns your input string. You can also change the symbols used for centering the string on the left and right. If the specified line length minus the input string length is not divisible by two, then one of the sides will have an extra centering character. In this case, we have a useful option that allows you to choose which side to tilt the centering to. Stringabulous!

This example centers a multiline string. Each line of the string gets treated separately and is centered to the width of 40 characters. Usually, there is an equal number of spaces on the left and right sides of the line but in some cases, there is one more space on the right side because the "Extra Char on the Right" option is selected here.
This example centers a single string and uses different symbols on the left and right. On the left, it uses a dash. On the right, it uses a tilde. A simple calculation shows that it puts the same number of symbols on both sides. The required length of the string is 26 (specified in options), the length of the input string is 6 (length of "winamp"). The difference, 26 - 6 = 20, is the number of characters to add on both sides. As there are two sides, we get 20 / 2 = 10 characters per side. As the number 10 is a whole number, we get ten "-" symbols on the left and ten "~" on the right. However, if there were, for example, 21 characters per side, then one side would have an additional symbol (one side would get 11 symbols and the other side 10).
In this example, we center a list of cartoons released by Disney Animation Studios. We set the total line length to 24 characters and specify the "<" symbol on the left and the ">" symbol on the right. On the lines where the filling is uneven, we put an additional character on the right. You can toggle between the extra char on the left / right options to see the effect of this option.
You can pass input to this tool via ?input query argument and it will automatically compute output. Here's how to type it in your browser's address bar. Click to try!
